A discussion of the linearity between the measured voltages of ion-selective electrodes and the ionic concentrations in whole blood.

چکیده
The ion-sensitiveelectrodes used to measure Na, K, and Clin biological fluids have output voltages that are logarithmically related to ionic activity. This measured voltage also is linearly related to ionic concentration for the Na and Clelectrodes. Furthermore, the K electrode, which must be corrected for its Na sensitivity in whole blood or plasma, exhibits a linear characteristic between measured voltage and K concentration in which the constants of the straight-line equation are each a linear function of the Na concentration. The linear relationships are discussed and fitted to data for pure electrolyte solutions, plasma, and whole blood.

Measurement and Modeling of Mean Ionic Activity Coefficient in Aqueous Solution Containing NaNO3 and Poly Ethylene Glycol
Potentiometric investigation on {H2O+NaNO3+PEG1500} mixtures were made at T=308.15K, using electrochemical cells with two ion-selective electrodes, (Na+ glass) as the cation ion-selective electrode against (NO3- solvent-polymer PVC) as the anion ion-selective electrode. The mean ionic activity coefficients of NaNO3 were measu...
متن کاملUultra-trace determination of cadmium (II) in aqueous environmental samples by a new ion selective electrode based on nefazodone and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ionic liquid
Background and Objective: Cadmium is a potential environmental contaminant that causes adverse effects on the environment and the health of living organisms. Therefore, designing a simple and economic technique for its determination is very important. In this respect, a potentiometric sensor based on nefazodone as the ionophore and [BMIM]PF6 as the ionic additive were developed for the determin...
متن کاملDetermination of Copper Content of Human Blood Plasma by an Ion Selective Electrode based on a New Copper-Selectophore
A new selectophore was introduced for Cu2+ ions. Spectroscopic studies showed a selectivity of a new organic compound (L) toward copper ions and several transitional metal ions. Hence, L was utilized in designing several ion selective electrodes for these cations. In practice, Cu2+ ion selective electrode behaved Nernstian (slope of 27.95±0.3 mV decade-1) over a...
